INDIGOSOUL & DESERT NOMAD
are the two themes of the Patrizia Pepe Menswear 2011 Spring Summer Collection, designed for men who were born to dress denim, but denim that has been intentionally stained with colours and materials conjuring up images of Californian deserts.
For the coming season, the Patrizia Pepe man will be channelling workwear vibes, evoking dry and dusty plains, wearing handmade details and working the washed look.
The result is an all-new classy casual with a long, lean but ever-soft appeal: the trench coat, in both the long and short versions, has a minimal cut making it supremely easy to wear; the destructured or washed-effect jackets are teamed with easy-around-the-middle trousers; the luxurious interiors mirror the lovingly hand-crafted tailoring of yesteryear; shirts are detailed and in a variety of mixed fabrics; the air dry jeans and chinos boast echoes of authentic, olden-day outfitting.
The colour palette matches the characteristic hues of the two themes: gradations of blue and natural tones blend seamlessly together, sitting happily alongside more fiery reds.
Diagonal grain materials in spring and summer weights feature heavily in the choice of fabrics, along with double-faced and patterned cottons used for jackets and trousers, stretch cotton poplin used to make shirts in classic designs or faded-effect prints, and Pima cotton jersey and piqué; the details and effects worked into the finished garments give them an even more unique feel and look.
The yarns used are as superb for fine jumpers as they are for outerwear; cotton and linen, reverse stitching, multicoloured cable-knits alongside hand-crafted details, fabric inserts, and garment-dyeing create clothes that are packed full of detail and great for anytime, anywhere dressing.
The leather and fabric accessories work well across the entire collection, dovetailing effortlessly whatever the look and only serving to heighten the care and inspiration encapsulated in each piece.
This collection takes a dip into the past to bring some old-fashioned luxury into the present for modern men who want their clothes to be comfy, classic but always contemporary in the materials and details used.
